Oh, Kyoto, the ancient capital city in Japan that condensed the Japanese culture with it's the best part. Kyoto is vast in terms of its rich cultural heritage - the material endowment of over a thousand years as the country's imperial capital. The city's numerous palaces, shrines, temples and other landmarks are spread around the city. With the contrast with Tokyo, Kyoto is this quite brother that evolves at a pace as if time pause for 1000 years when you walking in the ancient town. 

 

There are so many hidden treasures when you wondering in the city, from the little ally Sakae bars with amazing home cooked bites, a 2 seat grandma ramen stores that build through 4 generations, humble 4 star Michelin restaurant hidden behind cherry trees, the busy weekend flea market in the heart of a temple to street geisha performances, giant street mall that connected like a maze, local pharma stores that selling all kinds of goodies where you donate all your wallet here with no regret. 

 

Most amazing part is local cuisine, with most Michelin restaurants scattered around the city and has built it's foundation of Japanese cuisine.  

Our Home

Our home is a historic house located in the heart of Kyoto. It's local tatami style where can experience authentic Japanese home living. The group will be split into two houses that equipped with kitchen, 24-hour wifi and close to public transit, bars, restaurant and co-working space. We different options from private rooms to shared rooms (2-3) to meet different needs.

Work Space

Our coworking space is a historic building converted modern working space and it's first in this kind in Kyoto. It has a hot desk, maker space equipment, and any necessary office tools. Reliable wifi, weekly community events where you can connect with local entrepreneurs and business owners to learn from each other to build a community of wisdom. 

Excurisons

Kyoto is very rich in offering different experiences. In this chapter, we have organized local tracks that take you to explore local temples, hike to remote tracks, discover the local flea market, hunting for amazing local bites, shopping the best local produce as well as participate local community events to give back to the world.

When cooking no longer just cooking, it's the combination of art, emotion, performance, and impossibles. Most importantly, it's to initiate the social movements to promote a much meaning life with balancing food, living and mother earth.

 

Our Brain takes 5% of the body weight but consumes over 25% of energy. It burns over 500 calories per day. Humans learned how to cook - able to produce easy digest and chew food in short time, which provided high energy for the brain to develop and evolve. So basically it's cooking turned us, human.

 

And Japanese cuisine is turning us into advance humans, just kidding! It's the art of perfection, the spiritual ritual, the heart, and soul to make the most simple ingredients taste just amazeballs. You can hardly find anywhere in the world with family for 10 generation to just to make perfect rice, perfect Sakae, perfect ramen and much more to discover. We are peeling back the Japanese cooking layer by layer and intend to bring you the most authentic experience in the heart of Kyoto, Japan.

 

You can think of cooking is a different form of mediate, where you fully focus and immersed in the world of joy and happiness. 

Our Practice

We believe there is no other way to get a taste of the authentic culture than learn to cook local cuisines. Learning Japanese cuisine is not just learning their preparations, ingredients, seasoning, it through cooking diving into Japanese culture, tradition, and histories. 

 

We designed 40 hours/month program with 2 hours per day to learn Japanese cooking. We break down the curriculum into 4 weeks and each week comes with different themes. We will take you to visit local restaurants, local veggie market, food museums and cook with local families to share a meal together so you got fully immersed experience to learn with remote living global and local community.

 

Every day, there are different skills and knowledge for you to discover around Japanese cuisine and taught by local renowned chef and passionate foodies. This is food adventure where we connecting souls through cooking and have an amazing time together.
